Partners of the AquaFil Project 2000-2002 wished to perpetuate the work achieved thanks to the Ecos-Ouverture Programme. Thus, they applied to the Interreg IIIC Programme. Three new partners joined the group, which has now seven members:

Located in Eastern Bulgaria, the Municipality of Sliven (130,000 inhab.) belongs to the sub-catchment of the Toundja River, which is very polluted (a result of activities in the past) by the industry and intensive farming.

The Municipality of Alba Iulia (75,000 inhab.) is located in the basin of the Mures River. Because of heavy industries and mines set up along its tributaries, the level of pollution of this river is very high.

The Luxembourg partner (the Municipality of Beckerich, member of a river contract at the local level and lead partner of the AquaFil Project) and the French partner (Pays du Val d’Adour) share seven years of a common cooperation experience.

New members have recently joined the network: Trilho, a Portuguese association, the Hungarian Municipality of Ivancsa, and the University of Perpignan (Fr), a specialist of water-related issues.
