Concerning the territories of Sliven and Alba Iulia, the two Water Centres that were created were fitted out and started to run in the first semester of 2001. Straight away, they played an important role in the system of educative activities for children and the youth.

As there are only few activities provided outside of school in these territories, young publics have quickly made the Water Centre theirs, by showing great open-mindedness for the discovery of nature and river habitats that the Water Centre allows. Water Centres’ pedagogical activities have included the use of pedagogical tools created through the project, as well as other activities such as contests, field activities, and the creation of a play.

However, Water Centres in Alba Iulia and Sliven were willing to play a more technical role for the management of rivers. Thus, thanks in particular to their equipment to analyse water quality and the dissemination of results of analyses performed, Water Centres were identified by relevant local participants as contact bodies in the field of water and river management in Sliven and Alba Iulia.

In the Val d’Adour territory, SEMADOUR has fitted out its Water Centre in 2000 and early 2001. Since its creation, activities of Val d’Adour’s Water Centre have been focusing on the coordination of local bodies involved with integrated management of rivers and environmental pedagogy.

Therefore, it did not conduct independent actions. On this territory, there were already many bodies relevant to water-related issues, environment conservation, and extra-curricular activities. The needs of the territory were more for coordination and consistency, rather than new activities provided by a new structure.

However, SEMADOUR has decided at the end of the project to extend the competencies of its Water Centre in the future. Indeed, SEMADOUR has purchased very specific technical equipments (multi-parameters GPS, current meter, small mobile boats) to be used first for river management, and then, for some of them, for pedagogical activities. On the one hand, the objective is to share these equipments with partners in the territory, and on the other hand, to use this equipment for trainings targeting river technicians from the territory and the Region.

Concerning Redange, the Water Centre is running since March 2001 and it was officially inaugurated in March 2002. The Water Centre of the Attert River Contract has been very busy ever since. First, it is playing the role of coordination cell for the steering committee of the River Contract, and it monitors operationally the River Contract. Also, it is a project leader for actions in the field of environmental pedagogy and nature activities: Publishing of information publication; “A day in the wild” campaign, design of tourism information posters, etc.
